Oly Lifting aka "Why I need to work on my Snatch and Clean and Jerk"

I made the, dare I say, brilliant decision to take an Olympic lifting class the day after doing WOD 12.4. My legs were on fire the whole time. I think everyone in the class had the same experience I did since there was more moaning going on than on a porn set. I'm pretty sure the hour and a half nap I just wrapped up wasn't much of a help either as I crawled down the hall to the couch to write this.

Olympic Lifting is confusing to say the least. I swear to God every lift has it's own set of directions that when done properly will allow you to lift heavy weight or solve a Rubik's Cube. Hook Grip, Butt Down, Chest up, Sweep knees back, Slowly move to standing position, and then explode upward until your hands are over head. It all sounds kind of what I imagine prison would be like. Also if you mess up those first few steps you end up with bloody knees which reinforces the prison image...

This was the second time I have had the opportunity to take this class and it was very helpful. CFD is very fortunate to have a fantastic lifting coach who now has a student in the 2012 London Olympics. For once, I took something seriously and kept my sarcastic comments to a minimum. I didn't even snicker when the instructor said things like "Nice Snatch" or "Let's get to jerking". It was tough but I got it done. I also must have really impressed him because he told me in 10 years or so I will be a great lifter so I've got that going for me......
