What I learned...

I normally don't write blogs prior to WODs but today I woke up at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep. I've spent the last hour watching "Mad Men" and stretching in preparation of "Nancy" which is 5 rounds of 400m runs and 15 overhead squats. I learned during my mini-injury last week that I don't do enough stretching so I am working on it. As a matter of fact I think the combination of not enough stretching and constantly RX'ing (when I shouldn't be) is what causes the back pain. I am going to try to scale back the weight a little today and see if I can get thru all the running without any pain. I am cautiously optimistic but ask me once it's over how it went.

The second thing I figured out last week is my diet is sh*t. I am committing myself to a month long challenge of getting the proper mix of foods to fuel my workouts. Everyone seems to have an opinion on what is best to eat if you are a Crossfitter. Most stick with a Paleo diet or they follow the Zone. I have been on a strict Paleo diet for the past couple of weeks, assuming that cavemen lived on Papa John's and Mitchell's Ice Cream. I plan to follow a combo of those two eating strategies (minus the pizza & ice cream of course).

Basically, I think I have been letting other tell me what is best for my body. I let myself get bullied into RX'ing far too often and I modify my diet to what others think I should do. Ultimately I have figured out that I have to be comfortable and happy with the way I feel and with the progress that I am making. The trade off to all this self discovery however is the fact I will probably get yelled at a little more often by my trainer and by "a little more often" I mean all the time. She may actually call me at work just to tell me I'm not working hard enough. She would be right about that......

Post WOD note: It still hurt a little. The stretching is helping but I need to get the sciatica looked at. I think  I will get a Dr.'s appt today....
