What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas but goes on this blog forever...
I did have the opportunity to visit CrossFit Las Vegas. It was about a $20 cab ride from our hotel because my buddy Marty is Google Maps challenged and couldn't find a closer box. The affilate owner Joe, cut us some slack on the drop in rate so that helped a little but that was still gambling money thrown away on a cab that could have been more valuably thrown away on Blackjack, Booze, or Hoochies..... Oh well ~ Bygones.
The box itself had a ton of space and it was a small class so it was a really comfortable environment. The WOD consisted of doing 5x3 Push Presses at the, as we were instructed "Oh F*ck!" weight. In case you are wondering what that is, you pick a weight that when you lift the first time makes you say "Oh F*ck!". Classy....
After that we did:
30 Double unders
20 Kettlebell swings
This sucked. First of all, I left my rope at home and doing double unders was d*mn near impossible. In full disclosure my dubs are not great to begin with and they are even worse with a speed rope. The other thing I learned is when you do 3 cardio centric movements at a higher altitude than you are used to and after spending the previous day drinking 5 beers, 2 margaritas, a few shots and maybe a roofie or two, you feel a little winded. Who knew?
I got smoked by Marty on this WOD. I'm guessing it was because he was already warmed up from all that time he spent making smoke signals to determine how close the nearest CrossFit was. It took me about 16 mins or so to finish and truthfully it felt like an hour. Regardless, I finished and was d*mn glad it was over so I could get back to my busy agenda of drinking and hoochie staring.
We did get to meet some really cool out of towners including an affiliate owner from Canada, Tania Tetrault Vrga. She owns CrossFit Winnipeg and if her performance is any indication of her skill as a coach, then she kicks ass. After the WOD we took turn throwing darts at her abs to watch the metal tips bend. That may or may not be true depending on who you ask but she did prove once again that CrossFit women are badass. We shared a cab back to the hotel and had a nice discussion about her gym. It sounds like a fun place to be so if you are near Winnipeg check it out. She says it's a great place to visit in the winter. I'll have to make a field trip. I've never done Moose Jumps or 400m Dog Sled runs before....
There is a ton of other stuff to talk about from Vegas but the main reason I went was the wedding. It was totally worth it. The bride was beautiful and the groom is a very lucky man. Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Kogan. You two are perfect for each other and I am honored to have you both as friends & fellow Crossfitters.
