CrossFit Paleo Anonymous...

I am on my 6th day of the 30 day paleo challenge and I feel like I need to start introducing myself in groups like "Hi. I'm JFW and I'm a sugar addict. I'm 6 days sober..." This has been a challenging week for sure in many ways. I honestly underestimated my body's reaction to going sugar free. Here is the breakdown of each day:

Day 1 - I feel great! I got up in the morning, hit the gym and set a new PR on "Angie" of 18:09. That was a PR by around 2 minutes for me so I am stoked. By late afternoon I feel a headache coming on. The headache sticks around all day long. I go watch the National Championship with my buddies but my head hurts the whole time...

Day 2 - I take the day off from the gym. The headache lasted all night and is still going strong. I really want a donut. I also really want to throat punch someone. I decide against both....

Day 3 - The headache is subsiding but I am sleepy as hell. I somehow roll out of bed and go to the gym. I don't even come close to finishing the WOD under the time cap. I decide I couldn't have finished it regardless of my diet due to shoulder issues and set it aside as a "One Off". I spend most of the rest of the day trying to not sleep during work and explaining to my co-workers why my lunch looks different than theirs. Also the guy next to me gets annoyed when i put my head on his shoulder and drool a little bit. People are weird...

Day 4 - Still sleepy. My alarm goes off like a cannon. I don't remember sleeping that sound in awhile. I go in to the gym and do a hard ass WOD of deadlifts and 30" box jumps. My time is ok all things considered but it leaves me exhausted the rest of the day. The headache starts to come back mid day and lingers off and on.

Day 5 - I feel pretty "normal" today. Again it was really tough to roll out of bed but it's 5am. That sh*t is early so I blame my pillow instead of my diet. We do Olympic Lifting and I nearly pass out during the Back Squats. That's actually pretty normal for me. I think the rule of thumb for leg work is that if you don't puke, pass out, or shart your pants, then you should reevaluate what you are doing. The diet goes well but my kids are getting annoyed that I don't have ice cream around the house for them. I'm hoping they don't shank me in my sleep. Just to be safe I hide the utensils...

Day 6 - It's a 9am WOD for me today because it's Saturday. I get my ass stone cold kicked. It was a 4 rounder of cleans, running, and pull-ups. I lost all energy after round 1 and it just got worse after that. I miss the time cap for the second time in a week. That sucks but it is what it is I guess. I'm assuming at some point either my body will adjust to the energy difference or I will get used to being a p*ssy. At this point either one works for me....

All in all I feel pretty good about the week. I stuck to the diet and other than the issues above, I feel pretty good. I also feel "cleaner" and less bloated. My skin is also less oily. I shouldn't be surprised by these things but I am a little at how fast I felt different in those ways.

24 more fun filled days to go...
